Information: shield is that of the Williams of Aberpergwm, co. Glamorgan, Wales, who claimed descent from Jestyn ap Gwrgant (1014-1093), the last ruler of the Welsh kingdom of Morgannwg, which encompassed the counties of Glamorgan and Monmouthshire - Jenkin William settled in Aberpergym c. 1500 - George Williams, a notable athlete (died 1796), is believed to have been the last of the legitimate line, and it was Rees Williams (d. 1812), who is thought to have been his illegitimate son (or perhaps that of his father of the same name), who launched the family on a more distinguished career.
