“petition of David Weir (fl. 1820), late colour sergeant, 71st Regiment of Foot, 105 Mecklenburgh [Railway] Street, Dublin, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting appointment to post of porter or messenger: mentions his father’s military service in the 62nd Regiment of Foot and in the Royal Tyrone Militia ‘in which Regiment he died in Cork in [17]98’ and his own exertions in military service, having been in the course of his career ‘actively Imployed [sic] in three quarters of the globe’.”
