Heraldic/Genealogical Details:
Weir of Blackwood, co. Lanark, Scotland - descended from Thomas de Were of Blackwood (fl. 1316), a descendant of Walter de Were (fl. 1190) - Argent on a fess azure three mullets of the field.
One descendant was Sir George Weir (d. 1716), created a baronet in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia in 1694, son of George Weir, who was the son of Margaret Weir. He was succeeded by his sons, William and George, the second and third baronets, respectively. The baronetcy went extinct in 1735 upon the death of the third baronet.
