Northumberland, England - James Wallace of Carleton Hall, Cumbria, barrister, Member of Parliament, and Attorney General, purchased Featherstone Castle c. 1789, son of Thomas Wallace of Asholme, attorney, had son Thomas Wallace, who was elevated to the Peerage as Baron Wallace of Knaresdale in 1828, after having served as Privy Counsellor in 1801 - Gules a lion rampant, in chief two crosses patonce argent all within a border invected compony ermine and azure. Crest: Out of a crown vallery or, an ostrich’s head argent with a horseshoe in the beak sable. Motto: Sperandum est (It is to be hoped).
