Heraldic/Genealogical Details:

This ancient family, which appears in documents since 1158 and died out in 1831 with the famous minister of state, originated from Stein Castle near Nassau, which it held as a joint fief from both branches of the House of Nassau. It possessed extensive estates, including notably the lordships of Schweighausen (near Nassau) since 1427 and Frucht (near Braubach) since 1613. In the 15th century, it attained the status of Imperial Baron.

Wappen: In gelb eine rothe Rose mit baluem Butzen, im 14 Jahrhundert von einigen Mitfliedern mit funflatzigem blauen Turnierkragen vermehrt. Helm: 1352 zwei Pfauenwedel, seit etwa 1400 ein gelber Hunderumpf mit rothem Halsband. Decken: Rothgelb. Aus dem Hund wurde spater ein weisser Esel mit schwarzer Krone um den Hals.
