Fife, Scotland - Sir John Scott (1585-1670) was a Scottish laird, advocate, judge, politician, and author who was elevated to lord session as Lord Scotstarvit in 1632 and was knighted and made privy councilor in 1622, son of Robert Scot the younger of Knights-Spottie in Perthshire - Or, on a bend a star between two crescents of the field, a bordure engrailed gules. Crest: A dexter hand erected holding an annulet in which is set a carbuncle proper. Motto—In tenebris lux (In darkness, light).
