Wexford, Ireland - descended from Joseph Saunders Esq., of Saunders Court (d. 1657), eldest son of Colonel Robert Saunders, who was granted 3,725 acres in the county by Oliver Cromwell, who appointed him Governor of Kinsale, co. Cork - Argent a chevron between three elephants’ heads erased sable on a chief gules between two plates a sword in pale, the blade broken, point hanging down all proper. Crest: Out of a mural crown proper an elephant’s head argent charged with a torteau (ogress?). Motto: Nil conscire sibi (Free from guilt).
