MacNeill of Barra, Scotland - descended from Niall, 21st Chief of Clan Niall and 1st Lord of Barra (fl. 1040), had son Aogh or Hugh MacNeil (fl. 1090) - later came Roderick MacNeill (d. 1594), known as "the Turbulent", displayed valor at the Battle of Glenlivet before he fell - Quarterly, 1st, vert a lion rampant or; 2nd, argent in base the sea with a castle above the sea proper; 3rd, or, a lymphad sable sails furled; 4th, or, a dexter hand erect, couped gules within an orle of nine fetterlocks gules. Crest—A rock proper. Supporters—Two lions rampant proper. Motto—Vincere vel mori (To Conquer Or Die).
