Sir Vere Hunt (1761-1818) was created the first baronet of Curragh in the County of Limerick in 1784, a title in the Baronetage of Ireland, who later represented Askeaton in the Irish House of Commons, son of Vere Hunt of Curragh, County Limerick and Glengoole, County Tipperary, arms augmented in 1797 with castle because he helped raise the 135th or Limerick Regiment of Infantry - Azure on a bend between two water bougets or, three leopards’ faces gules, and for augmentation, on a chief of the third a castle or port between two towers argent masoned sable with the Union Jack of England displayed from a flagstaff erect proper, and in a canton of the field an Irish harp of the second, stringed of the fourth. Crest—A castle, as in the arms.
