Earl of Haddington - from Innenwick - Earl of Haddington is a title created in the Peerage of Scotland in 1627 for the noted Scottish lawyer and judge Thomas Hamilton, who had already been created Lord Binning in 1613, Lord Binning and Byres, and Earl of Melrose in 1619, Sir Thomas Hamilton of Priestield, a judge of the Court of Session as Lord Prestonfield (c. 1535-1611) - Gules on a chevron between three cinquefoils argent a buckle azure, between two ermine spots, all within a bordure or, charged with eight thistles vert, for Hamilton. Crest: Two dexter hands issuing out of clouds joined fessways and holding a branch of laurel. Motto: Praesto et persisto (I undertake and persist).
