Sir Humphry Davy (1778-1829) was a British chemist and inventor who invented the Davy lamp and a very early form of arc lamp, awarded a Baronetcy in 1818, becoming the 1st Baronet of Grosvenor Street, eldest of the five children of Robert Davy, a woodcarver - Sable a chevron engrailed erminois between two annulets in chief or, and in base a flame proper, encompassed by a chain of the first, issuant from a civic wreath gold.
