William Craven (1608-1697), English soldier, was elevated to the Peerage of England as Baron Craven of Hamstead Marshall in 1627, with remainder to his brothers, John Craven (see below) and Thomas Craven, sons of Sir William Craven (1548-1618), merchant and Lord Mayor of London
The title was recreated in 1801 for Major-General William Craven (1770-1825), who was also created Viscount Uffington in the same year.
John Craven (1610-1648), founder of scholarships at Oxford and Cambridge, was created Baron Craven of Ryton in 1642
