Clerk of Braleckan, co. Argyll, Scotland - Dugald Clerk (d.c. 1753), had son John Clerk who inherited an estate from his uncle Robert Clerk, who died in Jamaica- Or, a fess chequy azure and argent between three boars' heads sable. Crest: A dexter hand couped at the elbow brandishing a broad sword all proper. Motto: Fortiter ubique (Ever courageous).

Note: From him descended Sir Dugald Clerk (1854-1932), Scottish engineer who designed the world's first successful two-stoke engine (His arms shows a piston? engine? in base as oppose to a boar's head)

Note: In 1426, John MacArthua' Clerk was given the parish of Medulf (Melfort?) in Argyll for life. He was from a noble family and had studied canon and civil law in Bologna and other universities.
