Clarke of Elm Bank, Leatherhead, co. Surrey, England - Captain William Stanley Clarke (1768-1844), Director of the East India Company, son of John Clarke (1736-1789), son of Rev. John Clarke - Gules a bear rampant ermine gorged with an eastern crown or, between three mullets pierced argent. Crest: A bear, as in the arms, gorged with a naval crown or, line reflexed over the back gules supporting a battle-axe erect proper. Motto—Moenibus crede ligneis (Have faith in wooden walls).
There was also William Henley Stanley Clarke (d. 1876), served in the Madras 7th Cavalry, son of Ralph Clarke Esq.
