Dumbarton, Scotland - John Buchanan of Ardoch (1761-1839), Deputy Lieutenant, Member of Parliament, purchased the Balloch estate, descended from William Buchanan (1651-1723), first of Ardoch, who was the eldest son of Thomas Buchanan of Gartincaber - Or, a lion rampant sable in his dexter forepaw a dagger proper within a double tressure flory, counterflory of the second, all within a bordure invecked gules.
