Bean or McBean of Inverness, Scotland - registered in 1672 - Paul McBain (c. 1640-1703), 12th Chief of Clan MacBean, had son William MacBean of Kinchyle (c. 1670-1741) - Quarterly, 1st or, a lion rampant gules; 2nd, argent a dexter hand couped apaumée gules; 3rd, argent a sword in pale within a bordure indented gules; 4th, or, a lymphad, her oars in saltire sable. Crest: A cat sejant proper. Motto: Touch not a cat, but a glove. Note: Other sources list the following as a crest: A mountain cat rampant sable, and also a demi-cat rampant gules.
